A Trip to the Cinema

Residents of Bodawen Nursing Home enjoyed a joyful and nostalgic outing this week as they visited the local cinema to watch a classic musical, thanks to an event organised by Dementia Actif.

The special screening was designed to bring residents together for a memorable afternoon filled with music, companionship, and familiar melodies that sparked smiles, conversation, and reminiscence.

Upon arrival, residents were welcomed with warm tea and the comforting smell of fresh popcorn. The atmosphere quickly filled with laughter and friendly chatter as residents socialised with one another and with volunteers from Dementia Actif. Homemade cakes added a sweet touch to the gathering, creating a relaxed and homely environment.

As the musical began, many residents recognised the beloved songs and joined in with gentle singing, humming, and toe-tapping—moments that highlighted the powerful connection between music and memory. Staff noted the uplifting effect the outing had on residents, particularly those living with dementia, as familiar tunes helped spark joyful recollections and emotional engagement.
