Remembrance Day At Bodawen

Residents at Bodwen Nursing Home came together to mark Remembrance Day with a moving and meaningful programme of activities, reflecting on memories of World War II and honouring those who served.

A special display titled “Residents Remember WWII” was created within the home, featuring residents’ personal memories, reflections, and stories from the wartime years. Residents thoroughly enjoyed discussing these memories with work experience students, sparking thoughtful conversations across generations.

As part of the commemorations, residents painted poppies, symbolising remembrance and respect. One resident, Carol, delivered a heartfelt themed poetry reading, which was warmly received by everyone present. The home also observed a minute’s silence, allowing residents, staff, and visitors to pause together in remembrance.

Families and friends were invited to join residents for a Remembrance Day afternoon tea, creating a welcoming and reflective atmosphere. The event was further enhanced by a live performance from the activity co-ordinator, who sang a much-loved wartime song, and played beautiful pieces on the piano bringing back memories and encouraging residents to join in.

The day was a touching tribute to the past and a reminder of the importance of remembering and sharing history together.
