Nursing Home Residents Celebrate VE Day with Music, Memories and Flags

Residents and staff at Bodawen Nursing Home came together to mark Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a heart-warming celebration filled with music, laughter and nostalgia. The home was decorated with colourful flags and bunting painted by the residents themselves, creating a vibrant backdrop for the day’s events.

Live music filled the air as performers sang beloved wartime songs in both English and Welsh, including classics that had everyone singing along. From “We’ll Meet Again” to “Calon Lân”, the atmosphere was one of unity, joy and remembrance.

Many residents shared their memories of life during wartime — recalling dances, rationing, and the sense of community that brought people together in challenging times.

The celebration ended with tea, homemade cakes, and plenty of smiles — a fitting tribute to those who lived through the era and a joyful reminder of peace and togetherness.
